You're close. We want things to be easier to learn, but we have not yet found a place where we need to sacrifice flexibility in order to achieve that. Almost all the new features Drupal 8 offers can still be accomplished on the old architecture. That's also why we don't feel that all the new changes are necessary, and why we feel that we can still build a viable product without them.
Formatting options
Basic
To post pieces of code, surround them with <code>...</code> tags. For PHP code, you can use <?php ... ?>, which will also color it based on syntax.
Web page addresses and email addresses turn into links automatically, unless the parent tag has the 'nolink' class.
Lines and paragraphs break automatically.
Allowed HTML tags: <a> <em> <strong> <blockquote> <code> <ul> <ol> <li> <div> <p> <br> <pre> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <figure> <img> <figcaption> <hr>
